The person behind the camera
Meet Robert Evans
A distinctive eye.
A reassuring presence.
For more than three decades, I’ve photographed weddings that bring people together in extraordinary places. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of photographing the weddings of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, among others. It’s a world that found me, and I’m grateful for the people and stories it has brought into my life. Being named a Sony Artisan of Imagery in 2013 is another recognition I’m proud of.
Those experiences are part of my story. But when we meet, I hope what you notice first is how comfortable you feel. I hope you’re excited by my vision—and that, as we get to know one another, you feel confident trusting me to tell your story.
Your photographer becomes part of a very personal circle, often for several days, surrounded by your closest friends and family. You should love the photographs, of course. You should also enjoy having the person who makes them beside you.
The destination experience
The whole weekend matters.
My first destination wedding took me to Maui in 1993. Photographing the gatherings before the wedding taught me something that has shaped my approach ever since: the more time we spend together, the more naturally the photographs happen.
By the ceremony, I knew the people, understood the relationships, and felt less like someone hired to document the day and more like someone welcomed into it.
That is what draws me to a three- or four-day celebration. The welcome dinner, an afternoon by the water, the rehearsal, the wedding, the farewell—each reveals something different. Together, they tell a richer story than the wedding day alone.

Discretion
Trust is part of the work.
“My vision gets me invited. My character gets me invited back.”
Photographing people whose lives attract public attention has reinforced a responsibility I bring to every wedding: an invitation to witness someone’s life is not an invitation to share it.
Privacy is a conversation we have from the beginning. Understanding what matters to you, knowing when to step forward and when to give a moment space, and treating your family and guests with care are as essential to my work as light and composition.
The photographs matter deeply. So does the experience of being photographed.
For planners & designers
For the people bringing it all together.
A remarkable wedding weekend reflects the vision and effort of many talented people. I have enormous respect for the planners and designers who bring that vision to life.
I see my role as a creative collaborator within that team. I want to understand the rhythm of the celebration, the details you have considered, and the experience you want your clients and their guests to have. Thoughtful preparation gives us room to make meaningful photographs without making the weekend feel like a production for the camera.
I notice the room you have created—and the people who bring it to life.
A little more about me
Beyond the camera.
I’m a husband and father of three. My family and I made our home in Minnesota after years in Southern California. I love music, time on the water with a fishing rod, and photographs that become more valuable to us as life moves forward.
Being a father has deepened my understanding of what a wedding holds. Alongside the couple’s story are parents watching a new chapter begin, generations gathered in one place, and relationships that deserve to be remembered.
That is why the finished book matters so much to me. It gives those photographs a lasting place in your family’s life—something to hold, share, and return to long after the weekend is over.
Your celebration
Let’s begin with a conversation.
Whether you are planning your own wedding or guiding a celebration for your clients, I’d love to hear about the place, the people, and what you hope the experience will feel like.
